Hotels In Tulum, Mexico

Beach - Papaya Playa Hotel, Tulum

Note:  This article was updated on March 27, 2012.

Tulum is very low key and it has some gorgeous beaches.  It’s popular with independent travelers and it’s close to he spectacular, Mayan ruins of Tulum.  I highly recommended it – especially if you are seeking a quiet vacation.  Click here to read my post on Tulum.

I recommend these hotels:

  • Adonis Tulum Hotel – Mixed gay & straight, luxury, ocean front hotel near the town of Tulum.  It does not have a beach but the beach at Papaya Playa is only a 15 minute walk away. Nice pools and rooms.  Food is pretty good and the service was excellent. I stayed here in March 2011. $$
  • Papaya Playa – This cabana style, “Popup” hotel is under new ownership.  Like most hotels in Tulum, it’s a very small hotel right on the beach.  Unlike other hotels, it has become “hip” since the new owners took over.  I stayed at this hotel in March 2012.  Click here to read my review. $$

As mentioned in a previous comment, we think Tulum is a great place for a beach holiday, some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, a bonus for Mexico is the wealth of ancient Mayan sites and it is easy to travel in Mexico, either by rental car or public buses,

  2. Indeed, the infrastructure in the Yucatan is all developed. I find it extremely easy to move about this region and others in Mexico. Many people seem to think Mexico is a third world country. There is poverty and crime but we also have that here in the USA.
