The Cool Vibe of Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Beach - Playa del Carmen, Mexico

NOTE: I updated this article on March 10, 2012.

I love the cool vibe of Playa Del Carmen – a small, beach city about one hour south of Cancun.  It’s one of my favorite beach cities in the world.   The city is a lot of fun and it’s popular with Mexicans, North Americans and Europeans.  The beach is clean and beautiful and it’s close to Cozumel where you will find great snorkeling and diving.

My favorite activity in Playa del Carmen is relaxing on the beach.  You can sun just about anywhere along the beach but it’s also nice to stay at a beach club.  I highly recommend either the Canibal Royal or Mamita’s.

If you love to shop and eat well, you will be very happy in Playa del Carmen.  I love walking down Avenida Quinta (5th Avenue) in the early evening after spending the day at the beach.  Almost everyone is out and about shopping or chatting over an espresso in one of the Mexican or Italian cafes.  Dinner options are plentiful and varied.

I stayed at the Aventura Mexicana Hotel in 2009 and did so again in March 2012. Click here to read my post on hotels in Playa Del Carmen.
